Cry Out in the Storm

Gosh, I feel like the month of March was a year long. So many things happened so quickly. It was like every single day there were 47 million things happening and changing and it just seemed so overwhelming. Talk about growth….WOW! I had no idea when I decided to focus on growth for the month of March that God was going to work the way he did but he did and it was awesome and scary all at the same time. It’s still crazy and the future has so many unknowns, but I hope you are as ready to see what God is going to do as I am. I had already decided that April would be a month to focus on how to navigate the storms of life, since April is usually our rainy season here in Texas, but I could have never imagined the size of the storm we would all be facing. Don’t fret though because our God is so much bigger than this storm so let’s dive in and see what he has to say about it.

This week’s scripture focus: Psalm 107:27-31

“They reeled and staggered like drunkards; they were at their wits’ end. Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he brought them out of their distress. He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven. Let them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for mankind.”

So there is no doubt that the entire world is facing a storm right now. Never in our history have we seen such a disaster on such a global scale, but the truth is that through it all it has brought his people to their knees in prayer and united his children in faith. We have begun a “crying out” revival around the world and he hears us.

Everywhere throughout scripture we see God’s children in terrible situations because of their own doing and when they turn their faces back to him he saves them. It never ends with God abandoning his children forever. No matter what we do, he will NEVER leave us for good. He is our Father and his love for us in unfailing and never ending. So the storms we are facing right now whether they are financial, spiritual, health, marriage, depression or any number of other things that are rampant during times of crisis, are not even close to being as powerful as our Father in heaven. The winds and waves obey him and the seas calm down when he speaks. The stars enter into existence and fall at the sound of his voice. The trees and mountains move when he points and his hands create humanity simply by his breath on them. This is the God we worship and this same God knows us as his children. This same God knows the number of hairs on our heads and cares about the small things in our lives just as much as the big things. He is our daddy and all he wants is to hear our cries for help so he can answer with a mighty miracle. He doesn’t cause our problems, but he wants to help us solve them for sure.

I don’t know about you guys, but that fills me with hope and excitement. It creates a feeling of peace and calm in my spirit and quiets the storms of anxiety that tend to swell up when facing uncharted waters. So this week as we face the unknown, remember that God is at the helm and we can be certain that the storm will be calmed to a whisper and the sea will hush as long as our eyes stay fixed on the one who has it all in his hands.

Application:

  1. What storms are you facing this week?

  2. Write down your fears and pray about each one individually.

  3. How do you think God can use your situation to help you grow?

  4. What strengths do you have to face the storms ahead of you?

  5. How are you going to use those strengths in the days to come?

Until next time, keep on striving to become the amazing woman of God he created you to be.

Ellen
