Finding Your Worth in Christ

Updated: Jan 17, 2021

It is so easy to get caught up in seeking approval from others. Especially with the world of social media that we live in. Counting your comments and likes becomes a gauge to live by. A way to feel worthy of love, but the truth is that God created us already worthy of love, and he already loves us and sees us as beautiful, amazing and worthy of all the good in life. He only wants us to seek his approval and let go of seeking the approval of the world, as this only serves to knock us off our path that leads us to our dreams and purpose. Our scripture focus this week is a good reminder of this.

This Week's Scripture Focus: Galations 1:10

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”

Remember, we are going to get push back from others on our journey. If we allow that to influence the choices we make then we will get off course. Listen only to God’s voice and it will continually clarify our purpose and place the correct dreams and desires in our heart so that we follow the path for which we were created.

We are not able to serve God and the world at the same time. God is not of this world and therefore the world wants different things for us than God does. If we focus on serving God and pleasing only him, everything we want will fall into place because our desires will be in line with God’s. However, if we focus on pleasing people, we will drift further and further away from our true purpose and we will always feel empty and be seeking things that will never satisfy our emptiness.

We get to be true to who we are when we seek only to please God. There will never be a time when everyone will love or even like us, so we will constantly be trying to change who we are to please others. God knows who we are and we don’t have to hide anything from him. We can share all our hopes and dreams with him and he will support and create a way for us to get there. He loves who we are because he made us in his image and we are his children that he wants to see succeed.

It is so comforting to know that we only have to be our true self and allow God to handle the world for us. We are created unique and perfect and can relax and be exactly that person in Christ. The next time you find yourself doubting who you are, remind yourself whose you are and then step into your dreams.

Application:

1. Write down some of your common doubts and fears you experience about who you are.

2. Now take those and rewrite them as a positive truth from God.

3. Take some time to meditate on those truths about who you are that you wrote down and thank God for making you perfectly imperfect.

4. Be aware this week of times when you may be focusing on pleasing the world rather than God and shift your focus when you notice it.

5. Ask God to help you this week focus more on pleasing him than others.
